Happy Face

Drama

Estranged from his manipulative cancer-stricken mother, a handsome teenage boy deforms his face with bandages and joins a therapy workshop for disfigured patients in a misguided attempt to reconnect with her. His deception leads the group in a radical new direction that will require them to find courage that they didn’t know that they had to show their true face to the world.

Programmer’s Notes: Happy Face challenges us to not look away. Its cast includes powerful performances by facially different actors and actresses who know all too well what life is like when we refuse to make eye contact. Many of the cast were drawn from workshops and open casting calls playing fictionalized versions of themselves. A deeply affecting feature that will make you wince and cheer. One of the most memorable films of the 2019 HHM season.
